70's Clothes

When you consider 1970's clothes and fashions, you've got to consider the jewelry too. If you like large, chunky jewelry, the pieces from the 70s might be for you. Personally, my aunt is who comes to mind when I think of this large, ethnic flavored jewelry. It was hard to miss and definitely was not subtle.

Although it seems that much of the original 70s clothing has disappeared over the years, the jewelry has endured. This is probably due to the fact that it receives less wear and is made from more durable materials which can stand the test of time a lot better than any kind of fabric will.

Of course you can find plenty of this vintage jewelry for sale online, but if you are willing to drive around a little bit, and have some patience, you can usually find some very nice deals on vintage 70s jewelry on almost any given weekend. Of course I'm talking about paying visits to your local garage sales, estate sales and even flea markets. Estate sales especially often feature entire tables filled with these old treasures. One word of warning, be sure to look the jewelry over carefully. Make sure that nothing has been glued in to place by the previous owner. I don't think that people sell items like that intentionally, but sometimes even the original owners forget about old repairs that were made in a previous decade.

Many people like to look for small lots of jewelry. This can make their purchase much more affordable than making several small purchases. This is mainly due to the fact that shipping can be considerably less when you win a bulk auction.

One thing to remember though when you are buying vintage jewelry is that it may have seen a significant amount of wear.  If you are buying it at an estate sale, resist the urge to grab up handfuls just to beat the rush at the jewelry table.  Look at each piece carefully.  It really is not much of a bargain if you end up buying broken junk.  When you are buying used jewelry online, ask to see plenty of photos and don't be afraid to ask questions about the condition.  Also, check the sellers feedback if you are buying on eBay.  That should probably be common sense, but some people don't realize that they can learn a lot about a seller by clicking on that little number.

You can sometimes find old jewelry for sale at thrift shops, but honestly, it is usually just the same stuff you would have found at a garage sale the week before... just priced higher.
